Terima Kasih Cikgu...

What a strange feeling when I first heard this! It touches my heart (really..deep down!) And some of the girls even kiss my hand.

Well, that was one of my experience on my 1st 3 days here at PID RASA. Betul2 rasa bertanggungjawab nk ajar dan didik masyarakat ke arah celik IT. Especially bila dapat student yg bersopan, and talk to us nicely. Sometimes rasa kesian pon ada. Dah form 5 tapi tak penah kenal Microsoft Words...Excel and powerpoint apatah lagi kan... So, memang menguji kesabaran mengajar org yg tak tau apa2 langsung pasal IT nih. Itu baru cabaran nk mengajar taww..belom lagi cabaran BAHASA. Hahaha..mungkin ada org yg belum biasa dgn RASA nih. Let me tell a lil bit more about this place...

RASA is actually nama tempat. Its not daerah...its a very small rural town near KKB-Kuala Kubu Bharu. Located dalam daerah Hulu Selangor. How to get there?? OK, kalau kita ikut jalan lama nk pegi Utara, kita akan lalu RASA.

Selayang --> Rawang --> Serendah --> Hulu Yam --> BatangKali --> RASA --> KKB --> Kalumpang --> Tg Malim bla..bla..bla...sampai kedah, Perlis, Siam.

How about the population? Mix of Malays, Chinese and Indian. And sorry, I have to mention this..most of them memang kelas agak bawahan lah (in-term of education, income, lifestyle). And, for non-malays.. some of them cant understand Bahasa Melayu or English! Imagine how am I going to communicate with them. I have some funny stories here...



On my 1st day, my assistant-Hazira was on leave. So I have to pandai-pandai manage the Pusat (pusat refers to Pusat Intenernet Desa). But she (Zira) did came to pusat in the morning and brief me of what to do for that day. There will be 5 students for that day. 2 Malay girls, 2 chinese boys and 1 chinese adult. Luckily, all of them are here to sit for the test. Words and Excel test. So, I dont have to teach them, only guide them if theres any problems. And she warned me about 1 Chinese student who cant speak Malay. Well, I didnt take it seriously...It wont be that bad...i think. After all we are all Malaysian and of coz he will understand me but maybe he just dunno how to reply or respond...

OK, the 1st 2 malay students came in for morning session. Both are for Excel test. They are quite good and I manage to handle them steadily. They finished at 10.30am. And these are the 2 nice girls who kissed my hand!

My next student arrived very late. An adult chinese guy-in his early 30-ies. His session is from 12.00-1.30 pm. But he only turn up at 12.30 something! At first, I thought he was here to use the internet. He wore dirty clothes-short and checkered shirt (maybe he came straight from work) and a pair of funny spectacles! Its a sunglasses, but you can lift the glasses up leaving only the frame on your nose! Alamak..u get what i mean?? Im very bad when it comes to explaination. Hehe..tapi memang kelakar taww. Bila dia duduk depan PC, and I was sitting next to him utk mengajar, I asik nk tersenyum tengok spek itam dia yg terangkat! Haha..

Me : Yes...you mau guna komputer ka?
Him : Aaa.... saya belajar..
Me : Oh ok...kamu Tan Guan Ming ya...?
Him : Ya...
Me : Kamu lewat lah...ok, takpalah. Kamu duduklah kat mana2 komputer. Saya cikgu baru yer. Cikgu yg lama sudah berhenti. Yg lagi sorang pulak cuti. So, kamu harini buat ujian ok..
Him : OK..... (and he keep looking at his wrist watch)

I gave him the Green paper (kertas ujian) and stood behind him to see how good/bad he is in computer. And I think he felt awkward when people staring at what he's doing.

Him : Saya...tulis ini..?
Me : Yes. Kamu baca...buatlah mcm apa yg dia suruh. Kamu sudah belajar kan?
Him : Ini...apa mau ha??

OMG....dia ni tak boleh baca Melayu ker? Ahh sudah..macamana ni? So, I sat next to him and guide him from A to Z on how to type and answer the question. He was typing with one hand and and was damn sooooo...slow!!

Me : Awak kena biasakan taip dgn 2 tgn tau...
Him : Saya lambat...Kalau guna dua-dua..saya lagi lambat...

Alamak.... kalau mcm ni, nk jawab soalan 1 pon boleh sampai mlm ni....

Me : OK lah..awak cuba lah pelan2 ye. Takpalah..kalau lambat nnt kita sambung lagi minggu depan. And he continue typing.....

In the end, I was late for lunch. Terlajak sampai pukul 1.50 ptg. Cikgu yg terlampau bersemangat kot..hehe. And he can only finish question 1 (tu pon I yg tolong buatkan...) Sbb I think dia memang tak paham soalan. And BM dia memang teruk...I terpaksa selit2 ckp English hoping that he can understand better. Tataulah dia paham ke tak..dah la bercakap pon mcm org gagap...kuar sebutir2 perkataan dia...hehe.

When I came back from lunch dah pukul 2 lebih. I mula rasa berdebar tunggu next student. Tah macamana pulak peel dia kalini agaknya. hehe.. At 2.30 pm sharp, an old chinese lady (lets call her Ah So) came in. With a file in her hand, she smile at me and said..

Ah So : Eh, kamu baru ya? Mana pergi itu amoi pakai spek punya? (she was referring to the previous Penyelia)
Me : Dia sudah benti lah untie (scared to call her Ah So, nnt dia pelangkung i habiss..hehe). Skang saya ganti dia. Untie dtg utk belajar kan...
Ah So : Saya dulu sudah belajar, skang saya dtg mau guna lorrr... Saya mau tgok itu internet.

And she went in straight to her favourite PC. I went to her place and was about ready to help her. To my surprise...

Ah So : Takpa..nnt kalau saya tatau saya panggil kamu....

Me : ..............(speechless) Errr...ok.

Wahh..dah terer rupanya pelajar tua ni. From my place I can see that she was surfing some kinds of chinese websites and also....monitoring her SHARES!! Canggih kan?? She didnt bother me much. Only when the error message appears on her internet explorer.

At 4 pm, 2 chinese boys came in. Yong Ming and Wei Feng. YM is in standard 5 and WF is in form 2. YM arrived 1st. Very the skema looks. Kecik jerk budaknya. Pakai glasses...

YM : (with a loud and very the skema BM) Cikgu...saya dtg utk kelas!
Me : OK. Saya cikgu baru OK. Kamu kena beritau saya kamu sudah belajar sampai mana. Kamu bukak nota dan tunjuk di mana kamu berhenti minggu lepas OK.

And he flip and flip and the pages and keep saying...

"Ini sudah...ini sudah...ini sudah...."

Aik...tak kan semua sudah...So, quickly I ask him what is his last Ujian. And he showed me that he havent to this... (pointing at the green paper)

Me : OK, awak duduk tempat, buka Words dan buat soalan ini OK.
YM : Cikgu, nanti dulu. Saya mahu balik rumah ambil botol air...

Me : OK....(Tersenyum tgok gelagat budak ni...)
YM : Terima kasih cikgu...

And this student is very good. Tak sampai 10 minit dah siap test. And everytime I guide him on something he will say..."terima kasih cikgu" and bent his head mcm org jepun cakap Arigato tuh... Bersopan sungguh budaknya. Sbb dia dah terlampau terer, I let him finish early. But...

YM : Cikgu, bolehkah saya MELAYARI INTERNET?
Me : (Mcm nk tergelak pon ader..skema giler BM dia!) Ohh..boleh....
YM : Terima kasih cikgu.

Tak lama lepas tu, he called me...

YM : Cikgu, bagaimana saya nk save internet?

I went to his place and looked at his monitor. He was surfing about program angkasawan negara. Kagum sekejap. Kalau budak2 Melayu lain, mesti dah bukak website tah hape2...

Again, lepas jer I ajar dia how to save that thing, he said..Terima Kasih cikgu, siap tunduk kepala! Hehe...

Another student WM came a lil bit late. He didnt say anything...asik senyum jerk. Masuk, terus duduk and when I asked him about his previous lesson, dia tengok I pastu senyum. I tanya lagi..dia senyum lagi. Bisu ke budak ni?? Then baru I tau..nilah budak yg tak paham langsung bahasa Melayu tu! I tried English dgn dia...nampak mcm dia paham sikit. Adoihh..penatnya..berpeluh2 ketiak taww ngaja dia ni. I tepaksa duduk sebelah dia and guide him satu persatu. Nasib baiklah dia ni jenis yg cepat tangkap apa kita ajar. Dia ingat apa dan di mana yg I click and bila suruh dia tunjuk balik, memang dia boleh buat semua. Ni mesti budak cina yg pandai kat sekolah, cuma tak geti ckp BM. So, dia ni pon i release awal. I bagi dia buat keja sendiri...and to my surprise, tetiba dia ckp...

"Saya boleh melayari......" takat tu jer dia cakap, tapi I dah paham sgt. Nak main internet la tu. Yelah..mainlah...and he smiled back at me. 3 patah perkataan tu jerlah I dengar dr mulut dia... yg kelakarnya, pandai pulak sebut MELAYARI... hehe.

Thats the end of my 1st day experience. Finish. Tired. Mlm tu lepas maghrib terus pengsan sampai pagi! Haha....
